The University of Texas at Austin is planning on beginning the restoration of the historic UT Tower. According to UT News, the Texas System Board of Regents approved a $70 million budget when the "Our Tower: The Next 100 Years" project was proposed in August.

This restoration will mark the first renovation of the tower since its original completion in 1937. UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife stated "The most iconic symbol of the University of Texas, the Tower represents the long-standing tradition of excellence this great University is known for." The renovation is set to begin in November of 2024.

The major restoration plans include revitalizing the exterior stonework, windows, gilding, and clockface. The metal and woodwork are also set to be repainted to their original color. According to CBS Austin, the clock's inner mechanics are planned to receive updated electronic technology that will keep it running. The LED lights that adorn the clock will also be updated to provide more visibility to the clock face.

The renovation plans are set to conclude during the summer of 2027. The functionality of the LED lights and clock face will remain operational until those components are under construction. UT President Jay Hartzell stated "Thanks to the vision and support of our Board of Regents, and the generosity of alumni and friends, we are ready to begin realizing the future for our most important University landmark."
