University of Texas in Austin Planning the Restoration of UT Tower Night View of UT Tower The University of Texas at Austin is planning on beginning the restoration of the historic UT Tower. According to UT News , the Texas System Board of Regents approved a $70 million budget when the "Our Tower: The Next 100 Years" project was proposed in August. UT Tower near the end of its original construction in 1937. This restoration will mark the first renovation of the tower since its original completion in 1937. UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife stated "The most iconic symbol of the University of Texas, the Tower represents the long-standing tradition of excellence this great University is known for." The renovation is set to begin in November of 2024. The major restoration plans include revitalizing the exterior stonework, windows, gilding, and clockface.
